Centering Thought of the Day
“The past is behind, learn from it.”~Unknown
Do you live for the past? Live in it? Most do. It is hard to forget the past for it is where we gain much experience. Some of you are not simply gaining from your past but dwelling there. Staying in the past has become your daily journey in life. Making you miserable. You constantly think and have feelings about it. Such as, ‘what he did to me.’ Or, ‘what she said to me.’ Or, ‘I remember when they made me feel….” These little walks through the past should only be useful if they do not have power over you. If they do- then the past can become a permanent resident in your life. Influencing everything. Not only is it unhealthy for you but toxic for everyone else.
The past is the story that you have lived. Not living. Whether good or bad it is part of your book of life, that should be opened and closed without it ruling your life. Give up the past and learn from the pages. Instead of asking, “Why did this happen to me?” Instead ask, “Why did this happen for me?” What do you need to understand? Maybe that the incident was not your fault. That you survived. Or you did the best you could. Or perhaps you could have done better. Better yet, maybe it is time to change. Live better. Find help. The past is a tool you can use to edify and inspire yourself to become a better you.
No more holding on to people, places, or things. You cannot change any of it. Nor erase it, but you have the power to accept it. Learning from the past allows you to learn about yourself. Do not let fear keep you bound and chained to what was. Free yourself to what is.
